CAF Confederation Cup: Former TP Mazembe star Nii Adjei urges Medeama to secure big win at home

Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been urged to secure a convincing first-leg victory when they host TP Mazembe in the opening round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.

Former TP Mazembe midfielder and Heart of Lions assistant coach Daniel Nii Adjei believes Medeama must make the most of home advantage before travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return fixture.

Medeama were drawn against the Congolese giants in the first preliminary round during Thursday’s CAF Champions League draw in Cairo.

The Tarkwa-based side will host the first leg at the TNA Stadium before travelling to Kinshasa for the return encounter between September 11 and 13.

Speaking on Max FM, Nii Adjei stressed the importance of Medeama building a strong advantage at home to reduce the pressure of the second leg.

“With Medeama playing the first leg at home, they have to prepare well and make sure they win by a good margin so when they go to Congo for the reverse fixture, it doesn’t decide the tie.”

Medeama qualified for the Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.

If they eliminate Mazembe, the Ghanaian champions will face either Tunisia’s Club Africain or Mali’s Djoliba AC in the second preliminary round.
