Marseille reach verbal agreement for Aguerd to rejoin Real Sociedad
Olympique de Marseille and Real Sociedad have reached a verbal agreement over a move that would take Morocco international Nayef Aguerd back to Spain.
The 30-year-old defender is expected to join the Basque club on a paid loan costing €4m, according to Fabrizio Romano. The proposed deal would also include an €11m option to buy, meaning Real Sociedad would pay a total of €15m if they decide to make the transfer permanent.
Aguerd’s preference was a key factor in the negotiations. The defender gave his approval to Real Sociedad at an early stage, having already represented the San Sebastian club on loan during the 2024-25 season.
He made 21 appearances during that spell and retained strong links with the club. A return to Real Sociedad was his priority, despite interest from a number of other teams.
Several clubs from the Gulf region had been monitoring Aguerd’s situation, according to Africafoot, while Napoli were also following developments closely.
The agreement would bring an end to uncertainty over the future of a player whose contract with Olympique de Marseille was due to run until 2030. Aguerd, who was born in Kenitra, is currently valued at €15m.
His annual salary in France is reported to be €4,910,000, equivalent to 3,191,500,000 FCFA.
Aguerd joined Real Sociedad for the 2024-25 campaign and could now return to a club and league he already knows. The proposed move would give him the opportunity to continue his career in Spain, with the option for Real Sociedad to secure his long-term future at the end of the loan period.
Real Sociedad’s next fixture is against Real Betis in the second round of the Spanish league season. The betting company 1xbet lists Real Sociedad at odds of 3.25 to win, with a draw priced at 3.10 and Real Betis at 2.05. 1xbet also promotes the option to download its application.
The current agreement remains verbal, so the transfer arrangements still need to be formalised before Aguerd’s return to Real Sociedad can be completed.
