Bobby Adekanye begins new chapter with Lion City Sailors in Singapore

Bobby Adekanye has joined Lion City Sailors on a two-year contract after the Nigeria forward left his previous club as a free agent.

The 27-year-old had briefly attracted interest from clubs in the Eerste Divisie, but will now continue his career in Singapore after agreeing terms with the Lion City Sailors ahead of the forthcoming season.

The Singaporean club confirmed the signing in a statement, saying: “The Lion City Sailors are delighted to announce the signing of former Liverpool youth player Bobby Adekanye on a two-year contract – bringing speed, talent and proven European experience to the team ahead of the coming season.”

Adekanye is a left-footed attacker who can operate on the right wing or play as a second striker. Lion City Sailors believe his pace, technical ability and experience will add a different dimension to their forward line.

The club also highlighted his attacking qualities in one-on-one situations. Adekanye is known for his dribbling and ability to beat defenders, while his direct running, agility and movement in tight areas are expected to strengthen the team’s threat in the final third.

His arrival gives the Sailors another attacking option as they prepare for the new campaign. The club described the player as dynamic, with the ability to create opportunities and carry the ball forward from wide positions or through central areas.

Adekanye’s versatility means he can be used either from the right side of the attack or closer to the main striker. His preference for cutting into advanced positions with his left foot is also expected to complement the team’s attacking approach.

The move brings an end to a period in which Adekanye was without a contract. Although clubs from the Eerste Divisie had shown some interest in signing him, he has opted to take up the opportunity offered by Lion City Sailors and move to Singapore.

The club’s announcement placed particular emphasis on the qualities he can provide immediately: speed, creativity and experience gained in European football. Those attributes, along with his ability to take on defenders individually, are central to the role expected of him.

At 27, Adekanye joins with experience of playing in a variety of attacking roles, while his profile as a left-footed forward gives the Sailors flexibility in how they build their attacks. He can provide width on the right, move inside as a second attacker and influence matches in the final third.

Lion City Sailors have secured his services for the next two years, giving the player the chance to establish himself in Singapore and giving the club a long-term attacking option ahead of the season.
