Atalanta step up interest in Como forward Assane Diao

Atalanta have made contact with the representatives of Como winger Assane Diao as they consider a move for the Senegal international ahead of next season.

According to Nicolo Schira, the Serie A club have identified the 20-year-old as a potential addition to their attack. A positive meeting has already taken place between Atalanta’s leadership and Diao’s agents, underlining the club’s interest in pursuing the deal.

No formal agreement has yet been reached between all of the parties, but negotiations are understood to be well advanced. The discussions represent an early step in Atalanta’s efforts to strengthen their forward options.

Diao has attracted attention with a series of impressive performances for Como, although his progress has been disrupted by recurring injuries. Atalanta believe his pace, ability to beat defenders and capacity to attack space could add a different dimension to their frontline.

The winger has also continued to show encouraging form during Como’s pre-season preparations. In a recent friendly against Famalicao, Como secured a 3-2 victory and Diao scored his side’s second goal during the first half.

The goal provided another demonstration of the qualities that have made him a target for Atalanta. Diao joined Como after previously playing for Real Betis and remains under contract with the Italian club until the summer of 2029.

His current market value is estimated at 30m euros by Transfermarkt. Diao is reported to earn 930,000 euros a year in Italy, equivalent to 604,500,000 CFA francs.

For now, the Senegal international remains a Como player while the two clubs assess whether a transfer can be completed. Atalanta’s interest could develop further, but there is no confirmed agreement over a move at this stage.

Como’s next competitive fixture will be their opening match of the Italian league season against Udinese. The match will offer Diao another opportunity to continue his strong pre-season form, provided he remains with the club as negotiations develop.
