Leicesterford City sign former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Bongolwethu Siyasi

Leicesterford City have signed former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Bongolwethu Siyasi on a one-season deal, with an option to extend his stay beyond the initial contract.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship club have completed the move for the 23-year-old right-footed defender, according to iDiski Times. Siyasi is expected to bring experience of the division as Leicesterford target promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.

Siyasi began his career with Ajax Cape Town, the club now known as Cape Town Spurs. Mamelodi Sundowns subsequently secured his services, but he did not make a senior-team appearance for the club.

Instead, Sundowns sent Siyasi out on loan on three occasions. He spent two of those spells at Venda Football Club and the other at AmaTuks.

His previous experience in the Motsepe Foundation Championship could prove valuable to Leicesterford as they prepare for their promotion campaign. The club believe his arrival can strengthen their squad and help them pursue a place in the Betway Premiership.

Siyasi was formerly associated with the Urban Warriors, a reference to his time with Ajax Cape Town before the club became Cape Town Spurs. Although he joined the Sundowns setup, he was unable to break into the first-team squad and continued his development through loan moves.

Leicesterford have now secured his signature for the coming season, while retaining the possibility of extending the agreement. The move gives Siyasi the opportunity to establish himself at a club with clear ambitions of reaching South Africa’s top flight.
