Chelsea look to secure Josh Acheampong’s future amid Premier League interest

Chelsea are preparing to offer Josh Acheampong a new long-term contract as they seek to retain one of the most promising young players in their squad, according to TEAMtalk.

The 20-year-old defender is already under contract with the Blues until June 2029, but the club are considering an improved deal to strengthen their position and discourage interest from rival Premier League sides.

Acheampong, who is of Ghanaian origin, has impressed Chelsea with his defensive versatility. He can play either at centre-back or right-back, a flexibility that has increased his value to the club as they continue to develop young players.

Chelsea are understood to see him as part of their plans for the coming seasons and want to ensure his progress continues at Stamford Bridge.

His performances have also attracted attention elsewhere. TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Bournemouth all made enquiries about Acheampong’s situation during the summer transfer window.

That interest has encouraged Chelsea to act before the defender becomes the subject of a more serious approach. The club want to avoid losing a highly regarded prospect who is expected to have an important role in their future plans.

Acheampong’s market value is estimated at 30 million euros by Transfermarkt, despite the length of his current contract. A renewal would give Chelsea greater protection around the player and underline their intention to keep him at the club.

Chelsea’s next fixture is a sixth-round Premier League match against Bournemouth.
