Cedric Bakambu has left San Diego FC only two months after joining the club, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo international announcing his departure on social media.
The 35-year-old striker, who previously played for Real Betis, is now looking for a new club after ending his brief spell in California.
In his farewell message, Bakambu said he had wanted to continue with San Diego FC but that some decisions were beyond his control. He thanked his team-mates, staff members and supporters for their welcome, trust and backing during his time at the club.
Bakambu’s absence from San Diego FC’s previous match had already raised questions about his future in the United States.
He joined the club on 3 September after leaving Real Betis, but will not continue his experience in Major League Soccer. Bakambu departs with five goals in nine appearances, including four starts.
His exit comes despite an initial contract that was due to run until the end of the 2026 season. The agreement also included options that would have allowed San Diego FC to retain him for subsequent seasons.
Bakambu’s next move has yet to be confirmed. The striker has played in several leagues during his career, including in Spain, France, Turkey and Greece.
With his 36th birthday approaching, the Leopards forward must now identify a new project as he considers the next stage of his career.
