Achraf Dari close to Al Ahly exit and Wydad return, report says

Achraf Dari is close to leaving Al Ahly and returning to Wydad this summer, according to Moroccan outlet Radio Mars.

The 26-year-old defender has returned to Al Ahly after completing a loan spell with Swedish club Kalmar, but the report says he is now moving towards ending his contract with the Egyptian side.

Negotiations between Dari and Wydad are understood to have made significant progress, with both the player and the club keen to reach an agreement.

Dari remains under contract with Al Ahly until the summer of 2028. However, he has reportedly fallen out of the club’s plans after struggling with repeated injuries during his time in Cairo.

The Morocco international joined Al Ahly at the beginning of last season from French club Brest. He made only limited appearances for the club before moving to Kalmar on loan in January.

Dari spent the remainder of the campaign with the Swedish side and played nine matches in the Swedish league. He was available for every league fixture during his loan spell and scored once for Kalmar.

He did not feature in the final round of the season after his loan agreement expired.

Before his move to Sweden, Dari had played seven matches for Al Ahly since the start of last season. Three of those appearances came during the current international break in the Egypt Capital Cup and Egypt Cup.

He missed 16 matches for Al Ahly during the campaign because of injury.

Dari’s time at Al Ahly has therefore been affected by a series of fitness problems, limiting his opportunities despite the length of his contract. His loan move to Kalmar provided regular playing time, with the centre-back completing the spell without missing a league match.

Radio Mars reports that the defender is now preparing to leave Al Ahly, with a return to Wydad increasingly likely. The proposed move would represent a return for Dari, who is understood to be in talks with his former club as the two sides seek to finalise an agreement.

For now, Dari remains contracted to Al Ahly through to 2028, but the reported negotiations could lead to the deal being cancelled and the defender departing permanently this summer.
