Trabzonspor pursue Darwin Nunez after securing Mohamed Salah deal

Trabzonspor have made a move for Al Hilal striker Darwin Nunez, according to Turkish broadcaster A Spor, as the club continue an ambitious summer transfer campaign days after agreeing a deal for Mohamed Salah.

The Turkish side have reportedly submitted an offer for the Uruguay international and are preparing to open discussions with Nunez, his representatives and Al Hilal. No further details have been disclosed about the structure of the proposal or the Saudi club’s response.

Trabzonspor’s approach for Nunez comes after the club completed the signing of Salah in one of the most prominent deals of the transfer window. The Egypt forward arrived in Turkey on Wednesday afternoon and received a major welcome from supporters at Ataturk Airport.

Salah is expected to undergo a medical before being formally presented by Trabzonspor, with that ceremony likely to take place on Thursday.

The pursuit of Nunez underlines the scale of Trabzonspor’s recruitment plans. Club president Ertugrul Dogan previously said he was capable of signing any player he wanted, challenging the club’s domestic rivals in Turkey after negotiations with Salah were successfully concluded.

Nunez, 27, made 24 appearances for Al Hilal last season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. He joined the Saudi Arabian club from Liverpool in the summer of last year, but his position became more difficult after Al Hilal completed the signing of Karim Benzema during the most recent winter transfer window.

The arrival of Benzema affected Nunez’s prospects and led head coach Simone Inzaghi to leave the Uruguay forward on the margins of the team. That situation prompted Nunez to ask to leave Al Hilal.

Trabzonspor are not the only Turkish club interested in the striker. Besiktas are also seeking to sign Nunez, potentially on a loan deal, after their earlier attempt to bring Salah to the club failed.

Trabzonspor’s interest in Nunez therefore follows a rapid escalation in the club’s transfer activity. While Salah’s move has already attracted significant attention across world football, the Turkish side are now exploring whether they can add another high-profile forward from Al Hilal to their squad.

The club’s approach remains at an exploratory stage, with talks involving the player, his representatives and Al Hilal still to begin. There has been no indication of whether the Saudi side would be willing to approve a permanent transfer or a temporary move.
