Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kobamelo Kodisang training away from first team

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kobamelo Kodisang is training away from the club’s first-team squad as his representatives work on arranging a loan move for the 2026/27 season, according to Soccer Laduma.

Kodisang spent the previous campaign away from Sundowns after joining two clubs on short-term loan agreements. He began the season in Portugal with AVS, where he remained for the first half of the campaign, before returning to South Africa for the second part of the season.

The winger then joined Stellenbosch FC and stayed with the club until the end of the term. However, Stellenbosch FC did not show an interest in retaining him, with Kodisang having struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under head coach Gavin Hunt.

Soccer Laduma has been informed that discussions are now taking place over another temporary move for the player. His representatives are understood to be seeking a destination away from Chloorkop, with plans in place for Kodisang to leave before the transfer window closes.

Kodisang, who has previously played for Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars, is not part of Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso’s plans for the forthcoming season. The club is therefore preparing for the 2026/27 campaign without the winger in its first-team plans.

His situation follows a similar process involving another Mamelodi Sundowns player, Thapelo Maseko. Sundowns are also working towards allowing Maseko to depart, with a loan move abroad considered likely.

Maseko’s agent, Glyn Binkin, has confirmed that there is interest in the player from clubs in Africa and overseas. However, because Maseko remains under contract at Mamelodi Sundowns, any interested club must first reach an agreement with the South African champions.

“There has indeed been interest and offers for the player both in Africa and abroad and we are assessing the various options but as the player is contracted to Sundowns any interested club will need to negotiate with them first,” Binkin said.

For Kodisang, the proposed loan would represent another spell away from Mamelodi Sundowns after a season in which he moved between AVS and Stellenbosch FC. His limited opportunities at Stellenbosch FC, particularly under Hunt, meant the club did not pursue a permanent arrangement.

The latest development indicates that Kodisang is unlikely to feature in Cardoso’s plans at Sundowns during the new season. His representatives are now attempting to secure a move before the transfer window shuts, while the club considers the next stage of his career away from Chloorkop.
