Ilaix Moriba inspires Celta Vigo 5-0 win over Racing Santander

Ilaix Moriba said Celta Vigo must build on their convincing victory over Racing Santander after the midfielder starred in the club’s first La Liga win of the 2026-27 season.

Celta swept aside Racing 5-0 at Balaidos, producing their strongest display of the campaign before the international break. Moriba was named man of the match after scoring the hosts’ second goal in the 43rd minute, shortly after Hugo Gonzalez had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

“Better the goal. Sometimes it goes in and other times it does not. Today, fortunately, it went in and we got the three points,” Moriba said.

Miguel Roman extended Celta’s advantage after the interval before Pablo Duran scored twice late on to complete the rout. The result gave the home side a much-needed lift following a difficult start to the season.

“We started badly. This victory is good for us so that after the break we can be ourselves and go for our objectives,” Moriba added. “Today it worked out and we have to enjoy it.”

The midfielder urged Celta to trust Claudio Giraldez’s approach. “Things should not be changed. We have been doing things well for a long time.”
