Vinicius Junior set to weigh Real Madrid future as Arsenal prepare major offer

Vinicius Junior’s future at Real Madrid could reach a decisive stage on Wednesday, with the club due to meet the Brazilian forward’s representatives face to face to discuss a new contract.

According to the Spanish programme El Larguero, Vinicius has rejected Real Madrid’s latest proposal, worth €22m per year and running until 2031. Arsenal are reported to be leading the race for his signature if he decides not to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 24-year-old’s current Real Madrid contract runs until 2027. Under the present situation, he could leave the club for free one year later if he chooses to do so.

Former Real Madrid player and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has expressed significant pessimism about Vinicius’ prospects of remaining with the Spanish club.

Speaking on El Larguero, the former Montenegro international said: “We now know what Real Madrid are offering him, and Vinicius has rejected it. At this time of the summer, with one year left on his contract, this whole situation clearly indicates that Vinicius is not planning to renew.”

Mijatovic, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, added: “He can ask for 30, 35 or 25 million, it does not matter. At this point, it is no longer important; he is already considering other offers, which is normal given that he is a great player.”

Vinicius joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 and has become one of the club’s leading attacking players. However, no agreement has yet been reached over an extension, with Wednesday’s meeting expected to provide a clearer indication of his intentions.

Mijatovic also claimed Arsenal are particularly keen to sign the Brazil international.

“Arsenal are very interested in signing him,” he said. “I have reports from England saying that Arsenal are planning to pay a huge amount to bring him in.”

The former Real Madrid sporting director warned that the club would need to demand a substantial transfer fee if Vinicius refuses to sign a new deal.

“If he does not want to renew, we will have to get a large amount for his transfer,” Mijatovic said. “We will see what happens, but by August, things will still be unclear. If we cannot convince him to renew, we will have to consider getting a large amount for selling him.”

Real Madrid’s meeting with Vinicius’ representatives comes as the club attempts to resolve a situation that could become increasingly complicated as his contract enters its final stages. Arsenal’s reported interest adds further uncertainty, with Mijatovic suggesting the Premier League club would be prepared to make a major financial commitment to secure the forward.

For now, Vinicius remains under contract with Real Madrid until 2027, but the club’s latest offer has reportedly been turned down and his long-term plans at the Santiago Bernabeu remain unresolved.
