Hossam Abdel-Meguid makes first appearance in Ludogorets colours after Zamalek move

Hossam Abdel-Meguid has been pictured wearing the Ludogorets shirt for the first time since completing his move to the Bulgarian club from Zamalek this summer.

The Egypt international defender, who previously played for Zamalek, was photographed alongside his agent Samer Salama after arriving in Bulgaria on Sunday to begin his new chapter with Ludogorets.

Abdel-Meguid’s transfer brings an end to his time with Zamalek, where he made 171 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing one assist.

During his spell with the Egyptian club, he won three Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt Cups, the CAF Super Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Ludogorets have made a strong start to the Bulgarian league season, winning each of their opening three matches. They began with a 1-0 victory over Lokomotiv Plovdiv, followed by a 2-0 win against Dunav Ruse and a 2-1 success against Vratsa.

Their next Bulgarian league fixture is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August.

However, Ludogorets will not compete in European competitions this season after being eliminated in the preliminary qualifying round for the UEFA Conference League. It is the first time the Bulgarian club will not take part in European competition.

Abdel-Meguid previously explained why he chose Ludogorets over offers from clubs in the Gulf region. He said: “I preferred Ludogorets to the Gulf offers because it was the best and most serious option, even though the Gulf offers were financially stronger. My goal was to join a more well-known league, contribute to the success of my country, honour Zamalek, the club of my childhood, and pave the way for Zamalek’s young players to become professionals in Europe.”

Before leaving Zamalek, Abdel-Meguid sent an emotional message to the club’s supporters, thanking them for their backing throughout his time with the team.

“Thank you to all the Zamalek supporters,” he wrote on his official Instagram account.

“From the first day I put on the Zamalek shirt, you were the real support for me in every moment and through every difficult time.”

He added: “Today, as I begin a new step in my career, all I ask from you is your support and prayers, just as you have always stood by me.”

“I will always be proud to have been one of Zamalek’s sons, and your memories and support will stay with me wherever I go.”

Abdel-Meguid concluded: “Thank you for all the love. May God grant us all success in what lies ahead.”

The defender’s first official appearance for Ludogorets will come as the club continue their domestic campaign following their perfect start to the Bulgarian league season.
