BREAKING NEWS: Algeria officially part ways with Vladimir Petkovic after 29-month spell

Algeria have officially parted company with head coach Vladimir Petkovic after the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced the termination of his contract by mutual agreement.

The federation confirmed on Monday that Petkovic and his technical staff had left their roles, bringing an end to 29 months in charge of the Desert Foxes.

In an official statement, the FAF thanked the Bosnian-Swiss coach and his backroom team for their contribution to the national side.

Federation confirms mutual separation

The Algerian Football Federation said the decision to end the partnership was reached amicably between both parties.

“The Algerian Football Federation announces the official termination today of its contractual relationship with the national team coach, Mr. Vladimir Petkovic, and his technical staff, by mutual agreement,” the statement read.

Petkovic had been appointed to lead Algeria in 2024 and oversaw the team’s preparations for major continental and international competitions during his time in charge.

Tribute to Petkovic and his staff

The federation paid tribute to Petkovic’s work and professionalism throughout his tenure with the national team.

“The Algerian Football Federation extends its sincere thanks to Mr. Vladimir Petkovic and all members of his staff for their professionalism, commitment, and dedication throughout their twenty-nine (29) months at the helm of the national team.”

“The Federation also expresses its deep appreciation for the work accomplished and wishes them every success in the remainder of their careers.”

Search for successor begins

Petkovic’s departure leaves Algeria without a head coach as the country prepares for upcoming international assignments, including qualification campaigns and future continental tournaments.

The federation has not yet announced who will replace the 61-year-old or when a successor will be appointed.

With one of Africa’s most talented squads, attention will now turn to the next chapter for the Desert Foxes as they begin the search for a new man to lead the team forward.
