Cote d’Ivoire manager Herve Renard accepted responsibility after his side were beaten 1-0 by Cameroon in an international friendly at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe on Saturday.
Renard made significant changes to his starting XI, with the aim of giving several new players valuable playing time. A number of established players began the match on the bench as the coach assessed different options within his squad.
“I took risks with the starting XI because it was the only opportunity to try out the new players. I take responsibility for the risks I took – that is part of my job,” Renard said after the match.
The changes form part of the French coach’s wider work with a 25-player squad during this international window. His objective is to assess the different profiles available to the Elephants while continuing to refresh the group.
