Pape Gueye is preparing to return to the Stade Velodrome with Senegal, and the midfielder has spoken warmly about his time at Olympique Marseille.
Senegal will face Comoros in a friendly on Sunday afternoon, giving Gueye and fellow former Marseille player Iliman Ndiaye the chance to reconnect with the club’s passionate supporters.
During his press conference, Gueye made it clear that his memories of Marseille remain overwhelmingly positive.
“Honestly, I have nothing but good memories. Olympique Marseille is a club that helped me grow, both as a footballer and as a person. We know that playing in Marseille isn’t easy, but it helped make me the player I am today, so it’s been a purely positive experience. My family and friends will be there. As for what happened in Marseille, well, that’s football; sometimes things don’t go your way. It’s just football. I take only positives from it. I hope tomorrow will be a great celebration for Senegal and our brothers from the Comoros.”
Gueye and Ndiaye have already met several Marseille fans during their visit. Sunday’s match should provide another emotional occasion as the former Olympique Marseille players return to a stadium that played an important role in their careers.
