No plans to move or postpone 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, says CAF source

There are currently no plans to delay or relocate the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, although CAF will assess the readiness of the three host nations at the end of this year, a source has told FilGoal.com.

Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are scheduled to stage the tournament from 19 June to 17 July 2027. The source said the competition remains set to take place on those dates and in those countries.

“There is no intention to move or postpone the Africa Cup of Nations. For now, the tournament will be held as scheduled,” the source said.

CAF is monitoring preparations with the local organising committees in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, with a comprehensive review of the countries’ readiness expected before the end of the year.

“We will conduct a full assessment of the files of the three countries at the end of this year to determine how prepared they are to host the tournament,” the source added.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe is determined that the competition should go ahead on schedule and be held in all three countries, according to the source.

“Motsepe is determined to stage the tournament on time and in the three countries, and will therefore provide them with every form of support,” the source said.

However, CAF could consider alternative arrangements if the situation has not improved by the start of next year.

“If it becomes clear at the beginning of the new year that the three countries are facing difficulties in being ready, we will certainly turn to other solutions,” the source said.

“Alternative plans will definitely be available. The tournament could be moved to one country that is ready to host the event, but we will not rush the decision and will wait until the beginning of the new year to assess the situation.”

Egypt are the record winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, having claimed the trophy seven times.

They finished fourth at the most recent edition, which was held in Morocco in 2025.

Egypt are in Group B of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi.
