Tottenham assess Victor Osimhen move as Galatasaray demand £65m

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a major summer move for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who has been identified as their leading attacking target as manager Roberto De Zerbi continues to reshape the squad.

The London club are reported to have made initial approaches worth between £50m and £55m for the Nigeria international. Galatasaray, however, are believed to want about £65m before agreeing to sell their leading goalscorer.

Osimhen’s long-term contract and importance to the Turkish club are understood to be key factors behind that valuation. Despite the growing interest, there have not yet been any official contacts or direct negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray over a potential transfer.

According to CaughtOffside, citing sources close to football agents, Tottenham have received internal approval from a sporting perspective to begin formal discussions about the deal. Those sources also claim that agreeing personal terms with Osimhen is not expected to be a significant obstacle if the clubs can reach an agreement.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Galatasaray, scoring 41 goals and supplying 10 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. His performances have attracted attention from several leading European clubs and have strengthened the case for a sizeable transfer fee.

De Zerbi is understood to believe Tottenham need a recognised centre-forward who can make a decisive difference in attack. The uncertainty surrounding Richarlison’s future has increased that need, while Dominic Solanke has not yet been able to resolve all of the team’s attacking problems.

Osimhen is viewed by De Zerbi as a strong fit for the style he wants to establish at Tottenham. His physical strength, pace and intelligent movement in the penalty area would give the side a clear focal point in an attack built around possession.

The striker has also received significant praise from Nigeria manager Eric Chelle, who described him as “the best striker in the world”. The assessment reflects the level Osimhen has reached over recent seasons and the influence he has had in front of goal.

Tottenham’s ability to complete such a deal may depend heavily on their finances. The club have already spent heavily during the current transfer window, meaning they may need to sell several players before committing to another major outlay.

Richarlison’s situation could be particularly important. The Brazil forward has yet to decide whether he will remain at Tottenham, while De Zerbi would prefer him to stay, according to The Guardian. However, the manager is aware that Richarlison has not made a final decision.

With less than a year remaining on his contract, Richarlison’s departure could provide Tottenham with greater financial flexibility. It would also create an urgent requirement for the club to recruit a high-level replacement, potentially making the pursuit of Osimhen even more pressing.

Tottenham face strong competition for the Nigerian, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Atletico de Madrid among the clubs also reported to be interested. That interest could push up the eventual cost and leave Tottenham in a weaker negotiating position.

Osimhen offers a combination of qualities that are difficult to find in one forward. Alongside his speed and strength, he is capable of pressing aggressively and finishing chances consistently, making him a potentially significant tactical addition to De Zerbi’s plans.

Even so, the financial calculations remain central to Tottenham’s decision. A fee of about £60m could be regarded as a reasonable level for the deal, while exceeding £100m would represent a substantial risk after the club’s spending during the current transfer window.
