Donald Trump reports weekend double at Bedminster as golf record faces fresh scrutiny

Donald Trump has added two more trophies to his golf record after winning the club and senior titles at his own course in New Jersey, although the scores attributed to the US president have again prompted questions.

According to The Sun, the 80-year-old recorded an unusually low score of 70 at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, over the weekend. The result took his publicly claimed career total to more than 40 victories.

A video shared on social media showed Trump receiving loud applause in front of the club’s scoreboard after completing his round. A caption accompanying the footage said he had been presented with two awards for his performance.

Bedminster has a par of 72, meaning a score of 70 would represent two shots under par and was enough, according to the report, for Trump to claim both titles.

The latest result follows another disputed scorecard published by the White House last year. That card stated that Trump had shot 69 in the same annual tournament in 2025, winning by a total margin of 10 strokes.

Trump also visited military personnel during his trip to New Jersey. Observers noted that he was still wearing a golf glove while greeting the troops, prompting criticism online.

One user on X responded to the video by writing: “Wearing a golf glove. How disrespectful!”

Another added: “I guess he wears golf shoes and a driving glove wherever he goes…???”

Trump, a keen golfer who has frequently spoken about his ability on the course, has previously said: “I’ve played a lot, and I’ve played well. There are very few people who can beat me at golf.”

His claimed scores and list of tournament successes have nevertheless attracted scepticism from critics and sports journalists over a number of years.

Rick Reilly, the sportswriter who authored a book about Trump’s golfing habits, has questioned the legitimacy of the president’s club championship victories. Reilly once assessed Trump’s alleged conduct in particularly strong terms, saying: “When it comes to cheating, he’s an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.”

The footage from Bedminster does not establish independently how the latest scores were recorded, but it shows Trump celebrating what was presented as a double victory at the New Jersey club. The reported score of 70, like the White House’s previously published 69, has become the latest focus of debate surrounding his golf record.
