Trabzonspor offer Mohamed Salah €17m a season in bid to sign former Liverpool star
Trabzonspor have reportedly offered Mohamed Salah a two-year contract worth €17m (£14.6m) per season as they attempt to sign the former Liverpool forward on a free transfer.
The Turkish club have also proposed a further €5m in potential bonuses each season, according to Turkish website Ajansspor. Under the reported terms, Salah would additionally receive 20% of shirt sales.
French outlet Foot Mercato has reported that Trabzonspor are close to completing a deal for Salah, although the proposed move has not been confirmed by the club or the player.
The 34-year-old ended his nine-year spell at Liverpool at the conclusion of last season and is now available as a free agent. During his time at Anfield, Salah became one of the club’s leading goalscorers and helped them win major domestic and European honours.
Trabzonspor’s reported proposal comes after fellow Turkish club Besiktas withdrew from negotiations with Salah. According to the report, Besiktas stepped away because of the financial demands made by Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas.
The same Turkish outlet previously reported that Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad had also made an offer for the Egypt captain.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has spoken publicly about the possibility of bringing Salah to the club, but said there was no agreement in place.
“Who would not want to sign a player like Mohamed Salah? I want that too, but as of this moment there is no agreement,” Dogan said in an interview with Turkish broadcaster A Spor.
He added: “I do not want to talk about whether we have contacted Mohamed Salah or not. As the president of the club, I must protect Trabzonspor’s interests, so we have to choose our words carefully.”
Dogan also said: “If there is any new development regarding the transfers, we will inform our fans and the public immediately.”
The proposed move would make Salah the latest high-profile player to join Trabzonspor. Egypt internationals Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” and Ayman Abdelaziz have previously played for the club.
Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish league last season and will compete in the UEFA Europa League during the forthcoming campaign. They will enter the competition at the qualifying play-off stage, with a place in the main phase at stake.
Salah recently returned from the World Cup with Egypt after their elimination by Argentina in the last 16. His next club remains undecided, with the reported Trabzonspor offer among the latest developments in the race to sign him.
