Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray future in doubt as Tottenham, Barcelona and Atletico weigh options

Victor Osimhen could become one of the most sought-after players in the final weeks of the summer transfer window if either the Nigeria striker or Galatasaray opens the door to a move, with several developments suggesting that an exit may be possible.

Tottenham have already made an initial offer for Osimhen worth about 60m euros, but the proposal was rejected by the Turkish club.

Barcelona have been linked with the 26-year-old for several weeks, with reports in Catalan newspaper Sport suggesting he could be available for around 75m euros. However, his salary is regarded as the biggest obstacle to any deal.

Osimhen is believed to earn about 15m euros a year after tax, in addition to bonuses, while he also retains full control of his image rights. That would make the overall cost of signing him extremely high unless he agrees to reduce his wages.

The striker has not considered taking a pay cut so far.

Speculation has increased in recent days around the relationship between Osimhen and Galatasaray. Reports have claimed there are tax-related disagreements between the player and club, while it has also been suggested that Osimhen has given up the team captaincy.

Neither development has been confirmed in the source reports, but both have been viewed as possible signs that the player could be preparing for a change of surroundings.

Atletico de Madrid have also made enquiries about Osimhen, but they too have stepped back because of his salary demands. Barcelona, meanwhile, are not currently considering a move for him, despite recognising that he is a striker of the highest level.

Osimhen enjoyed a successful two-year spell in Turkey and has been comfortable at Galatasaray, meaning his decision to leave is not yet certain. The next stage of the transfer saga will depend largely on whether he finally decides that the time has come to move on.

A return to Italy appears unlikely. Osimhen’s contract contains a clause that makes it difficult for Galatasaray to sell him to another Serie A club. If the striker were transferred to an Italian side, Galatasaray would have to pay Napoli compensation of 70m euros.

That clause is expected to limit his possible destinations and makes England or Spain the more likely options should he leave Turkey.

Tottenham’s rejected approach indicates that there is already Premier League interest, while Barcelona and Atletico’s enquiries show that Osimhen remains on the radar of major clubs in Spain. For now, however, his high salary, Galatasaray’s position and the player’s own willingness to depart remain the key factors in determining what happens next.
