RB Leipzig turn attention to Fisnik Asllani amid Mohamed Amoura reports

RB Leipzig are not currently negotiating with VfL Wolfsburg over a deal for Algeria forward Mohamed Amoura, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg, who reports for Sky Sport Germany, said on Sunday that both clubs had rejected reports claiming discussions were under way over a possible transfer for the 26-year-old. He described the reports as “far from the truth”.

The claims had suggested Amoura could be a target for Leipzig during the current summer transfer window. However, Plettenberg said there are no negotiations between Leipzig and Wolfsburg for the Algeria international at this stage.

Instead, Leipzig’s full focus is on completing a deal for Fisnik Asllani. Plettenberg said the move for Asllani is currently the club’s priority, with the Bundesliga side concentrating on that transfer rather than pursuing Amoura.

The clarification places Amoura’s immediate future at Wolfsburg, where he remains under contract until the summer of 2029. There has been no indication from the information released by Plettenberg that the forward is involved in Leipzig’s present transfer plans.

Amoura joined Wolfsburg on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2024 after leaving Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise. He has since continued his career in Germany and is contracted to Wolfsburg for the next three seasons beyond the current campaign.

The Algerian is primarily a centre-forward, but his pace also allows him to operate from either wing. That versatility is one of the defining features of his game, although the current reports do not point to an active move involving Leipzig.

For now, Leipzig’s recruitment efforts are centred on Asllani, while Amoura remains a Wolfsburg player. The reported talks between the two German clubs have been denied by both sides, and Plettenberg’s account suggests the transfer story is not based on negotiations currently taking place.

Amoura’s long-term Wolfsburg contract means the club retains his registration through 2029. Any future decision on his position would therefore involve Wolfsburg, but the latest update concerns only the absence of current negotiations with Leipzig and the priority being given to Asllani.

The situation could change during the summer window, but based on the information reported on Sunday, Amoura is not part of Leipzig’s current transfer discussions.
