Marc Cucurella’s World Cup celebration takes an unexpected turn with postman Gary

Marc Cucurella has been widely praised after allowing his postman, Gary, to share a personal moment of Spain’s World Cup triumph by trying on the defender’s winners’ medal.

The Real Madrid player is still enjoying the celebrations after being part of the Spain side that defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final to lift the World Cup.

According to The Sun, Cucurella shared some of the joy from that historic achievement with Gary, the postman who delivers mail to his home and with whom he has built a friendly relationship.

Gary explained the encounter on social media, praising Cucurella’s humility after the footballer invited him to hold the medal he had won with Spain.

Describing the defender as “a very humble person”, Gary wrote on Instagram: “I had a great opportunity to talk to World Cup winner Marc Cucurella while delivering mail to his home.”

He added: “He is a kind and humble person, and allowed me to wear the World Cup winners’ medal… I think I am the first Englishman to wear a World Cup winners’ medal in 60 years.”

Gary also posted a photograph of himself wearing the medal around his neck, alongside a selfie showing him with Cucurella.

The pictures also drew attention to Cucurella’s new hairstyle. The Spain international appeared without the thick, familiar curly hair that has become closely associated with him, instead wearing neatly arranged braids that fell down around his head.

The gesture prompted a strong reaction from supporters, many of whom praised the player’s character and modesty.

One fan wrote: “Cucurella is a very respectable man. He is not arrogant despite winning, and he also does a lot of charity work.”

Another commented: “He is truly a wonderful person… I really loved this story.”

A further supporter said: “The more I learn about him, the more I admire him.”

Others admitted they were now finding it “difficult to hate him”, after his performances and personality during the World Cup had helped create a particularly positive impression.

Cucurella has previously spoken about the reason he chooses to keep his hair long, revealing that it helps his autistic son identify him more easily among the players during matches.

The explanation struck a chord with supporters, adding to the public interest in the defender beyond his performances on the pitch. His latest interaction with Gary has further strengthened that image, with the postman’s account offering fans a glimpse of the player’s behaviour away from football.

Cucurella joined Real Madrid recently and remains in the spotlight following Spain’s victory over Argentina. Alongside the attention surrounding his new look, his decision to let Gary share the moment with the medal has been seen by fans as another example of his down-to-earth personality.
