Morocco forward Yasser El-Zabiri continues scoring form for Racing Santander despite heavy Barcelona defeat
Moroccan forward Yasser El-Zabiri continued his impressive scoring form for Racing Santander despite the club suffering a heavy 7-2 defeat to Barcelona in Matchday 6 of the Spanish League on Wednesday evening.
El-Zabiri found the back of the net in the 65th minute at the Spotify Camp Nou, scoring Santander’s second goal of the evening as the newly promoted side struggled to cope with the attacking quality of the defending champions.
Despite the heavy defeat, the goal represents another positive individual contribution from the Moroccan, who is building momentum in front of goal.
Santander had fallen 4-1 behind before El-Zabiri pulled one back in the second half, giving the visitors a brief moment of hope. However, Barcelona quickly regained control and went on to score three more goals to complete a convincing victory.
Brazilian captain Raphinha was the star of the evening for Barcelona, scoring a hat-trick, including two penalties. João Cancelo, Gabriel Jesus and Lamine Yamal also got on the scoresheet, while Santander defender Asier Villalibre scored an own goal.
Santander’s Maguette Gueye had earlier scored in the 30th minute, but Barcelona’s relentless attacking display proved too much for the visitors.
Barcelona also missed opportunities to add to their tally, with Yamal failing to convert a penalty in the 45th minute, while another goal from the Spanish youngster was ruled out for offside in the second half.
For El-Zabiri, however, his goal provides another encouraging moment as he continues to establish himself with Santander following their promotion to the Spanish top flight.
The Moroccan will now look to maintain his scoring form and help Santander collect points in their upcoming league fixtures as they fight to remain competitive against Spain’s top sides.
