Al-Ittihad leave Sofyan Amrabat decision with Fenerbahce after new approach
Al-Ittihad have made a fresh attempt to sign Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fenerbahce, offering €12m for the player as they continue to strengthen their squad before the new season.
The Saudi club are also understood to have prepared an attractive financial package for Amrabat as they seek to persuade him to move to the Roshn Saudi League. Their latest proposal represents a renewed effort to complete one of the club’s major summer transfers.
Al-Ittihad are prioritising the holding midfield position after losing Brazil international Fabinho. His contract with the club expired and the board decided against extending his stay, leaving a significant gap in the centre of the team.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, the €12m offer is aimed at securing the permanent transfer of Amrabat, with the midfielder also being presented with financial terms designed to encourage him to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
The next stage of the process rests with both Fenerbahce and Amrabat. The Turkish club must assess the proposal, while the Morocco international will consider whether to accept the opportunity before a decision is reached in the coming days.
Amrabat has established himself as one of the most prominent midfielders of recent years. His performances for Morocco at the World Cup raised his profile, and he has since gained experience in both the English and Turkish leagues.
That combination of international pedigree, defensive strength and experience makes him a natural target for Al-Ittihad as they look to rebuild their midfield. The club believe his qualities could provide the authority and protection needed in the holding role following Fabinho’s departure.
Al-Ittihad are keen to move quickly with the start of the new season approaching. The club’s management see Amrabat as a player capable of filling the space left by Fabinho while adding greater strength to the midfield for their domestic and continental commitments.
The outcome will depend on whether Fenerbahce are prepared to accept the proposed fee and whether Amrabat is convinced that a move to the Roshn Saudi League is the right next step in his career. For now, the offer remains under consideration, with the Saudi club continuing to push for an agreement.
