Anass Salah-Eddine stalls Olympiacos move as PSV weigh alternative options

Anass Salah-Eddine has put a proposed move to Olympiacos on hold, despite the Greek club believing it had reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven over the versatile left-back.

Olympiacos had reportedly agreed a multi-million-euro transfer for Salah-Eddine, who was developed by Ajax and had been given permission to leave PSV Eindhoven. However, the destination does not appear to fit the player’s plans, leaving the expected move in doubt.

Salah-Eddine spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where his performances prompted the club to consider a longer-term partnership. PSV saw enough during the loan spell to explore the possibility of keeping him permanently.

The player, however, appeared to have a different preference. Salah-Eddine wanted to take his opportunity at Roma, or at least that was the expectation surrounding his next move. That possibility has become less straightforward, though, after Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini assessed his options on the flanks.

Gasperini is now looking at other profiles for the wide positions, with Feyenoord’s Givairo Read understood to be a priority target. The pace of the Feyenoord player is considered particularly attractive, reflecting the demands Gasperini places on his full-backs.

That change in direction has left Salah-Eddine facing an uncertain future. A move to Olympiacos appeared to be progressing after the clubs reached an understanding, but the player’s reluctance to pursue that option has prevented the transfer from being completed.

Real Betis has also been mentioned as a possible destination for Salah-Eddine. However, that possibility is not yet close to being finalised, meaning there is no clear resolution for the player at present.

The uncertainty may explain why PSV Eindhoven remains receptive to interest in Salah-Eddine, even though the reigning champions are already investigating other possibilities in the position. The Dutch club has made an offer to Filip Kostic, but he has yet to provide a definitive response.

For the moment, PSV Eindhoven is not preparing to sign Salah-Eddine directly. Its attention is instead focused on whether an alternative agreement can be reached with Kostic, while the situation surrounding the former Ajax player continues to develop.

Salah-Eddine’s immediate future therefore remains unresolved. Olympiacos believed it had secured the conditions for a transfer, but the player’s preferences and the changing situation at Roma have left the proposed move in limbo. Real Betis remains a possible option, although that route is also far from complete, while PSV continues to assess the market rather than committing to bring him back on a permanent basis.
