Motsepe backs Tanzania to host 2027 Africa Cup of Nations

Patrice Motsepe has rejected suggestions that Tanzania could be replaced as one of the hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the Confederation of African Football will support the country in delivering the tournament.

The competition is due to take place in June and July across three East African nations: Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football, said there was no alternative plan for Tanzania and expressed confidence that preparations would be completed before the tournament.

“There is no Plan B or C. We will help Tanzania host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations,” Motsepe said.

“There are too many negative comments in the media. I am convinced that when I return in January, they will be ready.”

The CAF president’s comments come a few months before the tournament, with Tanzania’s preparations facing scrutiny in the media. Motsepe said the governing body would continue working with the country’s organisers rather than consider another host.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are scheduled to stage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations jointly, making it a tournament hosted across three countries in East Africa.
