Pyramids move clear at the top after five rounds of Egyptian Premier League

Pyramids FC lead the Egyptian Premier League with a perfect 15 points after five matches, following their 2-1 victory over Eastern Enppi in the final fixture before the international break.

The league will now pause while Egypt play three matches against Angola, South Sudan and South Africa during the international period.

Pyramids are two points clear of Zamalek and Al Ahly, who occupy second and third place respectively on 13 points. At the other end of the table, Ghazl El Mahalla have collected only one point.

Attack and defence records

Ceramica Cleopatra have scored more goals than any other side, with 10, making them the division’s strongest attack.

Pyramids and Zamalek share the best defensive record after conceding only once each.

Smouha, Abu Qir Fertilizers, Petrol Asyut and Ghazl El Mahalla have each scored just one goal, giving them the weakest attacking returns.

Eastern Enppi and Ghazl El Mahalla have conceded nine goals apiece, leaving them with the league’s poorest defensive records.

Four players share scoring lead

Four players are level at the top of the scoring charts after the opening five rounds, with each having scored three goals.

The leading scorers are Mostafa El Badry (Montakhab El Suez/Petrojet), Ahmed Sayed Zizo (Al Ahly), Mahmoud Mamdouh (Modern Sport) and Maoly Mayo (Al Qanah).

Competition format

This season’s competition features 20 teams playing a single round.

The six highest-placed sides will progress to the championship group, where they will compete for the title and qualification places for African competitions.

The remaining 14 teams will enter a group competing to avoid relegation.
