Salah poised for Al-Ittihad move after agreeing Saudi club’s proposal
Mohamed Salah is close to joining Al-Ittihad after the Saudi Arabian club made an official offer directly to the Egypt international.
The proposal would see Salah earn an annual salary of $25m (£19.4m; €21m), according to Sabah. The terms are understood to have persuaded the former Liverpool player, who has reportedly already accepted the conditions presented to him.
Discussions involving the relevant parties are now described as almost complete. Unless there is an unexpected change in the situation, the transfer will become official once the required documents have been signed.
The move would represent a significant development in Salah’s career and would be one of the most notable transfers of the summer window. Al-Ittihad’s offer has provided a clear indication of the club’s determination to secure the 34-year-old Egypt international.
Salah is currently valued at €22m by Transfermarkt. That valuation is lower than the total financial commitment represented by the proposed salary package, although the article does not provide details of any transfer fee or the length of the proposed contract.
The reported agreement with Al-Ittihad comes despite interest from another club. Besiktas also wants to sign Salah, according to exclusive information published by Africafoot.
However, Al-Ittihad appear to have taken the lead after presenting their formal offer and receiving a positive response from the player. The negotiations are therefore at an advanced stage, with only the completion of the paperwork apparently standing between Salah and a definitive move to Saudi Arabia.
Salah’s reported salary in England was €20,817,548 per year, equivalent to 13,531,406,200 FCFA. The figure proposed by Al-Ittihad would give him an annual income of $25m, or €21m based on the conversion used in the report.
The Egyptian’s possible arrival would make the transfer one of the headline moves of this summer’s market. While the discussions are not yet officially complete, the overall agreement is described as being close, with the final documents now expected to determine whether the switch is concluded.
For now, Al-Ittihad’s proposal has made them the strongest contender for Salah’s signature. The player is reported to have accepted the financial conditions, and the remaining stage is the formal signing process required to make the transfer definitive.
