Sua Flamingoes sign Botswana defender Simisane Mathumo from Township Rollers

Botswana centre-back Simisane Mathumo has joined Sua Flamingoes from Township Rollers, strengthening the club’s defensive options ahead of the new season.

Mathumo, 34, made the move on 31 July 2026 after leaving Township Rollers, where he had spent the previous five years. The right-footed defender is 1.83m tall and brings extensive experience from domestic football in Botswana and overseas.

He produced 11 appearances in the Betway Premiership and featured seven times in the CAF Champions League, giving him a total of 18 recorded appearances across the two competitions. Mathumo played 990 minutes in the Betway Premiership and 630 minutes in the Champions League.

The defender returned to Township Rollers in August 2021 after leaving Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga on a free transfer. His first spell with Township Rollers began in January 2019, following a move from Free State Stars, also on a free transfer.

Mathumo began his senior career with Township Rollers after progressing from the club’s under-19 side. His career has therefore taken him from the Botswana club’s youth system to domestic football in South Africa and Morocco before his latest move to Sua Flamingoes.

The transfer keeps Mathumo in Botswana and sees him join a club that will benefit from his experience in both league and continental competition. His record includes appearances in the CAF Champions League as well as the Betway Premiership, adding a measure of top-level match experience to his new side’s back line.

Mathumo’s arrival also represents a return to Botswana football after his spell with Olympique Khouribga. He spent the period between 2021 and 2026 with Township Rollers before completing the switch to Sua Flamingoes.

The move was completed on 31 July 2026, with Mathumo now a Sua Flamingoes player.
