Ibrahim Hassan denies Egypt have discussed Hossam Hassan contract renewal

Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan says neither he nor the coaching staff has held talks with the Egyptian Football Association about renewing their contracts since returning from the 2026 World Cup.

Hossam Hassan’s coaching team guided Egypt to the last 16 at the tournament, but Ibrahim Hassan insists that no negotiations have taken place over the terms of a new agreement.

“We have not held any meeting with officials of the Egyptian Football Association in the recent period, after returning from participating in the 2026 World Cup,” Ibrahim Hassan told reporters.

He added: “We have not discussed or referred at all to any clauses related to renewing the contract with the board of the Egyptian Football Association.”

Ibrahim Hassan also rejected reports circulating about the potential agreement, saying: “All the figures, information and clauses being circulated regarding the contract renewal have no basis in truth.”

The Egyptian Football Association previously announced that it had formed a committee to establish the terms of a new contract for Hossam Hassan, who is head coach of the national team.

The committee is expected to discuss the renewal terms with Hossam Hassan, including the coaching staff, revised salaries and arrangements for Egypt’s two friendly matches during the next international break.

It consists of Egyptian Football Association vice-president Khaled El-Dirandaly and board members Tarek Abou El-Enein and Hamada El-Sherbiny.

Hossam Hassan took charge of Egypt in February 2024 and began his tenure with a match against New Zealand in March of that year.

Since then, he has led the Pharaohs in 35 matches, recording 19 wins, 10 draws and five defeats.

Egypt finished second in Group Seven at the World Cup with five points, behind Belgium on points difference.

During the group stage, Egypt drew with Belgium and Iran before beating New Zealand 3-1.

The Pharaohs then defeated Australia on penalties in the round of 32, before losing to defending champions Argentina in the last 16.

The latest comments from Ibrahim Hassan indicate that, despite the Egyptian Football Association’s decision to establish a negotiating committee, formal discussions over the coaching team’s future have not yet begun.

No details about a possible new contract, including its duration, financial terms or the composition of the technical staff, have been agreed, according to the Egypt team director.

The remarks also contradict the figures and proposed clauses that have been reported in connection with a renewal for Hossam Hassan and his staff. The committee remains responsible for determining those terms before any agreement can be reached with the national team coach.
