Gabadinho Mhango says he remains a Richards Bay player amid Nyasa Bullets speculation

Gabadinho Mhango says he remains an active Richards Bay FC player and has denied reports that he has left the South African club.

The 33-year-old striker is currently in Malawi recovering from an Achilles tendon injury that ruled him out for the latter half of last season. He is believed to have one year remaining on his Richards Bay contract.

Mhango was recently pictured wearing the strip of Malawian club Nyasa Bullets while helping to launch the team’s 2026/27 third kit. He also appeared in promotional activity for Malawi’s First Capital Bank, a Nyasa Bullets sponsor.

His appearance in the club’s jersey prompted questions over whether he had already moved on from Richards Bay, where he is known as one of the Natal Rich Boyz. Information from Malawi has suggested that Mhango is poised to rejoin Nyasa Bullets, a club he has previously been associated with.

However, when asked to explain why he had been seen representing another club while apparently still under contract in South Africa, Mhango said he had only attended the event after being invited.

The forward also rejected suggestions that he had departed Richards Bay, insisting that his current presence in Malawi was linked to his rehabilitation rather than a change of club.

“I am currently in Malawi, still recovering from the injury. While it might be easy to say I will recover within three or four weeks, the reality is that only God knows,” Mhango explained to KickOff.

“I remain an active member of Richards Bay.

“The reason I am not with the team at the moment is due to my injury. As soon as I am fully recovered, I will rejoin my teammates at Richards Bay.”

Mhango has spent nearly a decade playing in South Africa, making his situation one of interest as speculation continues over his next move.

His involvement in Nyasa Bullets’ kit launch and the First Capital Bank promotion created uncertainty about his relationship with Richards Bay, but his comments indicate that he has not yet ended his time with the club.

The injury has kept him away from the team, and he did not provide a definite timetable for his return. Instead, Mhango said the length of his recovery remained uncertain.

For now, the striker maintains that Richards Bay remains his club and that he intends to return to his teammates once he has fully recovered.
