Brazil and USA locked level at half-time in Women’s U20 World Cup last-16 tie

Brazil and the United States went into half-time goalless in a tightly contested Women’s U20 World Cup last-16 match in Katowice.

The two title contenders produced a cautious opening 45 minutes, with neither side able to create many clear chances. Despite the lack of attacking opportunities, the match was played with considerable energy and intensity as both Brazil and the United States competed strongly across the pitch.

The United States made the first attempts to threaten in attack. Linda Ulmark tried her luck in the 23rd minute, but her effort did not result in a goal.

Brazil’s best opportunity came in the 36th minute, when Sofia Couto also failed to find the breakthrough.

The United States had one further attempt in first-half stoppage time, but the deadlock remained intact.

The physical nature of the contest was reflected in the disciplinary record. Johnson was booked three times, while Cammon was also sanctioned for the United States. Brazil’s Nogueira and Vitorinha likewise received disciplinary punishment.
