Pyramids agree deal to sign former Al Ahly goalkeeper Hazem Gamal on free transfer

Pyramids have reached an agreement to sign former Al Ahly goalkeeper Hazem Gamal on a free transfer as part of their preparations for the new season, a club source has told FilGoal.com.

The 21-year-old, born in 2005, became a free agent after leaving Al Ahly and is set to join Pyramids to bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“We have completed an agreement with Hazem Gamal, the 21-year-old Al Ahly goalkeeper, to sign him on a free transfer,” a Pyramids source said.

Gamal made two senior appearances for Al Ahly’s first team – one against Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the League Cup and another versus Telecom Egypt in the Egypt Cup.

The move comes as Pyramids reshape their squad during the current summer transfer window, with the Cairo club looking to strengthen in several positions following the end of last season.

Replacing veteran Sherif Ekramy

Pyramids currently have Ahmed El Shenawy and Mahmoud Gad as their established goalkeepers, but Gamal is expected to come in as a replacement for the retired Sherif Ekramy.

Ekramy had been a senior figure in the squad before hanging up his gloves, leaving Pyramids needing to add depth and a long-term option in goal.

By bringing in a young keeper who has already made his debut at a major club like Al Ahly, Pyramids are aiming to combine immediate cover with potential for development in the coming years.

Busy summer for Pyramids

Gamal’s signing continues what has been an active summer window for Pyramids, who had earlier confirmed the arrival of defender Eyad El Askalani from Russian side Rostov.

The club are currently holding a pre-season training camp in Turkey as they step up their preparations for the new campaign, using the trip to integrate their new signings and fine-tune the squad.

The agreement with Gamal, once finalised, will add further competition for places in goal as Pyramids look to build a squad capable of challenging domestically and maintaining their recent progress.
