Zidane recalls Camavinga as he names first France squad

Zinedine Zidane has announced his first France squad since becoming head coach, with Eduardo Camavinga returning after missing the 2026 World Cup.

France will face Turkey, Belgium and Italy in the European Championship matches, with Zidane making several changes to the group selected by his predecessor Didier Deschamps.

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, Fenerbahce midfielder N’Golo Kante and Paris St-Germain defender Lucas Hernandez have all been left out.

Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet and Como midfielder Luca Da Cunha have received their first France call-ups.

There are also recalls for Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert, who has been absent from the national squad for four years, and Andy Diouf, who has not played for France since 2024.

Camavinga is included again after missing France’s World Cup campaign in 2026.

Zidane took charge after Deschamps left his position following the end of the 2026 World Cup, which was staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The former France midfielder is contracted to remain in charge of the national team until the 2030 World Cup.

France were eliminated from the 2026 tournament after losing 2-0 to Spain in the semi-finals. They then suffered a 6-4 defeat by England in the third-place play-off.

Spain went on to win the World Cup, beating Argentina in the final after Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal.
