Pyramids FC deny making bid for Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed despite admiration

Pyramids FC have dismissed reports that they have submitted a formal offer to sign Nantes and Egypt striker Mostafa Mohamed, despite describing him as a player who would strengthen any team.

Recent speculation suggested the Egyptian club had lodged a bid worth €2.5m to bring the forward back from Europe. However, a Pyramids source told FilGoal.com that no official move has been made for the 26-year-old.

“Mostafa Mohamed is a fantastic striker and an addition to any team, but we have not entered into official negotiations to sign him as has been claimed,” the Pyramids source said.

South African forwards under consideration

The same source had previously indicated to FilGoal.com that Pyramids’ priority for reinforcing their attack is currently focused on a forward from South Africa rather than on Mohamed.

According to South African outlet SABC Sport, the names of Peter Shalulile and Tshegofatso Mabasa have been put forward to Pyramids. The pair were reportedly offered to the Egyptian club following the appointment of Rolani Mokwena as head coach, as the club seek a replacement for Fiston Mayele.

Mokwena recently took charge at Pyramids, succeeding Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic.

Mostafa Mohamed’s situation at Nantes

While his name continues to be linked with a move away, Mostafa Mohamed has returned to training with Nantes after previously being absent from the club’s pre-season conditioning programme ahead of the new campaign.

The Egypt international has rejoined the French side’s set-up and is currently working on an individual training schedule as he builds up his fitness for the season.

Nantes head coach Michel Der Zakarian has confirmed that Mohamed will train with the club’s reserve team until the close of the transfer window, placing further uncertainty over the striker’s immediate future with the Ligue 1 side.

Nantes signed Mohamed from Galatasaray for €6.5m, having initially impressed during his time with the Turkish club.

The forward has one year remaining on his contract with Nantes, which is due to expire in the summer of 2027.
