Kylian Mbappe ends 20-year Nike partnership to join On

Kylian Mbappe has ended his long-standing association with Nike to sign with Swiss sportswear company On, in a major commercial change for the Real Madrid and France forward.

The partnership between Mbappe and Nike began in 2006, when he was still a teenager. In recent years, the American brand had made him one of the central figures in its football marketing, particularly as Cristiano Ronaldo moved into the later stages of his career.

Mbappe described the switch as another significant turning point in his life.

“Once again it, football, has led me to one of the biggest changes in my life,” Mbappe said on social media. “Now, I find myself surrounded by innovators who dream of the same things I do.”

On is planning to move into the football boot market in 2027 and has appointed former France international Thierry Henry as its director of football.

The company is backed by tennis great Roger Federer and is also seeking to grow its business in the Americas. More than half of On’s revenue currently comes from that region.

Mbappe’s decision follows Nike’s loss of another prominent young player. Spain and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal recently joined Adidas.

Nike paid tribute to Mbappe after the end of their partnership.

“We are proud of what we achieved together on and off the pitch,” the company said. “As he moves into the next phase of his career, we wish him continued success for what comes next.”

The agreement gives On one of football’s most recognisable players as it prepares to launch its first football boots, while raising the profile of a brand seeking to establish itself in the world’s biggest sport.
