Milan aim to end run of draws as Lecce visit with history on their side

Milan will look to extend their winning run against Lecce to six Serie A matches when the sides meet on Sunday in the fifth round of the season.

According to Opta, Milan have won the clubs’ past five league meetings, scoring 12 goals and conceding two while keeping clean sheets in four of those games. Victory would give them a record winning streak in this fixture.

The Rossoneri are also unbeaten in their past 16 Serie A matches against Lecce, recording 11 wins and five draws. Their most recent defeat came on 1 April 2006, when Axel Konan scored in a 1-0 Lecce victory at Via del Mare.

Milan have not lost at home to Lecce in Serie A this century, winning 12 and drawing two of the 14 meetings. They have scored 38 goals in those matches, 30 more than their opponents.

They have won each of their past four home games against Lecce by an aggregate score of 9-0. However, Milan have drawn their last two league matches, against Juventus and Lazio, and have not drawn three consecutive Serie A games since September 2018, when they were managed by Gennaro Gattuso.

Milan’s most recent home match ended in victory over Venezia, but they have won successive home league games only once in this calendar year – against Inter and Torino in March.

Lecce have won four of their past six Serie A matches and lost two, scoring nine goals at an average of 1.5 per game. That is the same number they managed across their previous 12 league fixtures combined.

All seven of Milan’s Serie A goals this season have come in the final 30 minutes, more than any other team in the competition. By contrast, they have scored only once in the first half across their past nine league matches.

Lecce have conceded five of their seven goals this season during the opening 30 minutes, the highest total in Serie A. Only Monza, with seven, have conceded more first-half goals than Lecce’s five; Genoa have also conceded five.

Diego Moreira has played a part in five goals – scoring three and providing two assists – in his past three appearances across Ligue 1 and Serie A. Before scoring twice as a substitute against Lazio, the 2004-born player had never scored from the bench in his previous 68 appearances in Europe’s top five leagues. He can now score in consecutive matches in those competitions for the first time.

Lecce are Christian Pulisic’s favourite Serie A opponents, with the American having scored five goals in five games against them, including a double on 8 March 2025. Pulisic has not started a league match since 26 April, but after providing an assist in the previous round, he can contribute to at least one goal in consecutive Serie A matches for the first time this calendar year. His last such run came in December.

Lecce’s midfield includes two players involved in more than one league goal this season: Lassana Coulibaly has scored twice and supplied one assist, while Ivan Ilic has provided two assists. Only Inter, with four players, have more such midfielders.

Coulibaly scored twice in his last match and will equal his best Serie A goals tally, three, from the 2022-23 and 2025-26 seasons if he scores again.
