Morocco set African record as squad value passes €500m mark

Morocco now possess the most valuable national-team squad in African football history, with the Lions of the Atlas rated at a record €512.7m, according to the latest Transfermarkt estimates.

The updated market valuation, which follows recent adjustments linked to the 2026 World Cup cycle, also suggests that Morocco’s squad could peak at around €634m, underlining the scale of its rise on the global stage.

No African side has previously reached such a level in player-market value, and the figures highlight how the Moroccan national team has been transformed into a benchmark within world football.

World Cup breakthrough fuels surge

The surge in valuation reflects the change in status Moroccan football has undergone in recent years. In the immediate aftermath of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – where the Lions of the Atlas became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final – the overall value of the squad was still below €300m.

Four years on, the picture is radically different. Morocco have moved beyond the symbolic half‐billion‐euro threshold, powered by a golden generation spread across Europe’s leading leagues.

The rapid appreciation in transfer values underlines the growing appeal of the national side, which now combines established performers at elite level with emerging talents attracting major interest.

Bouaddi and Hakimi lead Moroccan valuations

One of the most striking individual rises concerns Ayyoub Bouaddi. At just 18, the midfielder has emerged as one of the standout revelations on the international scene. His market value has jumped by €30m to reach €80m.

That leap places him alongside Achraf Hakimi at the summit of the highest-valued Moroccan players in history. For a player of his age, it is an exceptional benchmark and a further indication that Morocco are producing footballers capable of competing with those from the world’s leading nations.

The upward trend, however, is not confined to Bouaddi.

Ismael Saibari embodies this ambitious new wave. Following an impressive season and a successful World Cup campaign, the attacking midfielder has seen his valuation climb from €40m to €55m, underlining his elevated standing in European football.

Other senior figures within the Lions of the Atlas set-up have also benefited from these reassessments, strengthening both the depth and the perceived quality of a group now regarded as one of the most competitive in the game.

Long-term project behind record figures

Beyond the headline sums, this record-breaking valuation is seen as the culmination of years of structured work in Moroccan football. Investment in youth development, improved infrastructure and the increasing presence of Moroccan players at major European clubs have all contributed to the national team’s step up in status.

With a squad now assessed at more than half a billion euros, Morocco are no longer viewed solely as a dominant force within Africa. They are establishing themselves as one of the most ambitious nations in international football.
