Ipswich Town sign Ghana winger Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester in £20m deal
Ipswich Town have completed the marquee signing of Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester City in a deal worth €23.45m (£20m), on a five-year contract that runs until 30 June 2031.
The transfer, announced on the Premier League club’s social media channels, represents one of the most eye-catching moves of Ipswich’s summer business as they strengthen their squad following promotion.
Issahaku, 22, arrives at Portman Road with a growing reputation as one of the most exciting attacking prospects of his generation, having caught the eye with his pace, dribbling and creativity during his time with the Foxes.
Highly rated Ghana international joins Ipswich project
Regarded as one of the most promising forwards of his age group, the Ghana international made his name at Leicester City, where he has been on the books since the summer of 2023.
At the King Power Stadium he showcased a direct, attacking style, repeatedly troubling defences with his speed on the flank and his ability to manufacture goal-scoring opportunities for himself and his team-mates.
Although his minutes were at times limited at Leicester, his performances when selected underlined his potential and drew attention from clubs across Europe. Ipswich have now moved decisively to secure his services on a long-term deal.
Major boost to Ipswich’s attacking options
Issahaku’s arrival is expected to significantly bolster the offensive options available to Ipswich’s manager as the Tractor Boys target Premier League survival and gradual progression in the top flight.
The club, back in the Premier League and looking to establish themselves, have identified attacking depth and quality on the flanks as a key area for reinforcement. The signing of Issahaku is seen as a statement of intent that Ipswich are ready to compete at a higher level.
His profile – young, dynamic and with top-flight experience – fits with Ipswich’s strategy of building a squad capable not only of avoiding relegation but also of developing over the coming seasons.
Long-term commitment and market value
Issahaku is now tied to Ipswich Town until the summer of 2031, underlining the club’s long-term faith in his potential and giving him the platform to become a central figure in their plans.
On football data site Transfermarkt, the winger is currently valued at €20m, a figure that reflects his standing in the market and his perceived upside as he matures.
During his spell at Leicester City, Issahaku was reported to be earning an annual salary of €583,609 (379,345,850 FCFA), illustrating the difference in economic scale between his earlier contracts and the elite financial level of the Premier League.
By securing one of Ghana’s brightest attacking talents on a lengthy deal, Ipswich Town have not only added flair and pace to their right wing, but also signalled their determination to build a competitive squad capable of staying in the Premier League and growing year on year.
