Mario Lemina signs new Galatasaray deal to stay until 2028

Mario Lemina has committed his long-term future to Galatasaray, signing a new contract that keeps the Gabon international at the Turkish champions until 30 June 2028.

The Istanbul club confirmed the extension on its official website after the 32-year-old midfielder’s previous deal had expired, ending any speculation over his immediate future.

Lemina, who joined Galatasaray in 2023, has become an important figure in the heart of the side and said the new agreement underlined his desire to help “write history” with the club.

‘We are going to write history here’

Speaking after putting pen to paper, the defensive midfielder expressed his delight at remaining in Turkey.

“Je suis tres heureux ici. Je tiens a remercier chaleureusement notre president. Ce contrat temoigne de mon engagement envers le club. Il montre que nous allons ecrire l’histoire ici. Je remercie infiniment notre entraineur de sa confiance. Je resterai ici pendant deux ans. Je suis ravi.”

Although the contract announced by Galatasaray runs until 2028, Lemina framed the deal in the short term, emphasising his commitment to the immediate future and to delivering success on the pitch.

The extension confirms the faith placed in him by head coach and club hierarchy, who have relied on his experience at the top level in Europe.

Lemina also paid tribute to Galatasaray’s passionate supporters, highlighting his bond with the fanbase.

“Nos supporters savent combien je les aime. J’essaie de leur temoigner ma reconnaissance en jouant bien sur le terrain. J’espere que nous aurons une nouvelle saison riche en victoires. Ce grand club a besoin de victoires.”

European experience and market value

Formed at FC Lorient in France, Lemina has built an extensive CV across Europe’s major leagues.

He previously played for Juventus in Serie A, Marseille in Ligue 1, and had spells in the Premier League with Southampton and Fulham, as well as a stint at OGC Nice.

The Gabon international, who has represented his country at the Africa Cup of Nations, is currently valued at around €4.5m on the transfer market.

Since arriving in Turkey, Lemina has made 59 appearances in the Super Lig, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His performances as a screening midfielder and his ability to contribute both defensively and in build-up play have made him a key component of Galatasaray’s structure.

Before this renewal, Lemina was earning an annual salary of €2,080,000 (approximately 1.352 billion CFA francs). The club has not disclosed the financial terms of the new deal, but the length of the contract suggests Galatasaray view the midfielder as central to their medium-term plans.
