Mamelodi Sundowns eye move for former Orlando Pirates defender Olisah Ndah
Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly entered the race to sign Nigerian defender Olisah Ndah as the South African Premiership champions continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The experienced centre-back is currently a free agent after parting ways with Stellenbosch FC at the end of last season, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to add proven defensive quality without paying a transfer fee.
Ndah’s departure from the Cape Winelands club came as a surprise to many, particularly after head coach Gavin Hunt had spoken highly of the defender following his arrival.
The experienced tactician appeared to value the Nigerian’s versatility and football intelligence, regularly praising his performances and even deploying him in central midfield during periods when Stellenbosch were short of options in the middle of the park due to injuries.
His ability to comfortably adapt to multiple roles suggested he would remain a long-term part of Hunt’s plans. However, his exit at the conclusion of the campaign opened the door for other clubs to pursue his signature.
According to reports, Sundowns have now emerged as one of the strongest contenders to secure the defender’s services.
The Brazilians are believed to view Ndah as an experienced and reliable option capable of adding both depth and competition to their defensive unit. His composure in possession, aerial dominance and ability to play out from the back fit the style of football that Sundowns have become known for over the years.
Although his spell at Orlando Pirates was hampered by recurring injury setbacks, there has never been any doubt about Ndah’s quality whenever he was fully fit.
The Nigerian international delivered several impressive performances during his time at the Buccaneers, but persistent fitness issues prevented him from enjoying a sustained run in the starting line-up and ultimately limited his overall impact at the club.
Sundowns are nevertheless understood to believe the 28-year-old still possesses the ability to perform at the highest level and could prove to be an important addition if he can remain injury-free.
Reports suggest the Tshwane giants have already tabled an offer as they seek to win the race for his signature.
However, the move is also dependent on the club’s foreign-player quota.
Sundowns are reportedly working on creating space within their allocation of foreign players before finalising another signing from outside South Africa. The club is expected to offload at least one foreign player to free up the necessary registration slot, a move that would pave the way for Ndah’s arrival.
Should the deal go through, Ndah would bring valuable Betway Premiership experience to a Sundowns side already packed with quality, while also offering versatility across the defensive line.
As the transfer window gathers momentum, the former Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch defender could soon find himself embarking on a new chapter at Chloorkop, with Sundowns hoping his experience and defensive qualities will strengthen their squad for another campaign of domestic and continental ambitions.
