Michael Folorunsho: Bologna keen on move for Napoli and Italy-Nigeria midfielder

Bologna are exploring a move for Italy-Nigeria midfielder Michael Folorunsho, who is under contract at Serie A champions Napoli until 2029.

The 28-year-old central midfielder returned to Naples this summer after a loan spell at Cagliari in the 2025-26 season, but his long-term role under the current set-up remains uncertain and Bologna are monitoring his situation closely. No fee has been agreed and talks are described as preliminary.

Folorunsho has built a solid body of work in Italian football, with more than 80 Serie A appearances and seven goals, adding a further two goals in the Coppa Italia and experience in European competition through the Europa Conference League. Standing at 1.90m and predominantly right-footed, he offers a physical presence in central areas combined with a willingness to break forward from midfield.

Napoli first brought Folorunsho to the club in 2019 from Virtus Francavilla and have since used a series of loans to accelerate his development, including productive spells in Serie B with Bari and Reggina and in Serie A with Hellas Verona, Fiorentina and most recently Cagliari. His market value is currently estimated at around 5m, having previously peaked at 8.5m.

The midfielder was part of the Napoli squad crowned Italian champions in the 2024-25 campaign, adding a major domestic honour to his career and underlining his status as a proven performer at the top level. His combination of experience across the Italian pyramid and recent exposure at a title-winning club has made him an appealing option for sides seeking ready-made midfield depth.

Bolognas interest comes as they look to reinforce their central options for the new season while maintaining a focus on players with Serie A pedigree. Any deal would hinge on Napolis willingness to sanction a move for a player tied to a long-term contract and still considered a valuable asset.

For now, Folorunsho remains a Napoli player with three years left on his deal, while Bolognas interest is at an early, exploratory stage and no agreement is in place.
