Police FC set to appoint Jamil Benouahi as new head coach
Rwanda Premier League side Police FC are on the verge of appointing Jamil Benouahi as their new head coach, in a move that signals a fresh chapter for the Kigali-based club.
Benouahi, a Belgian-Moroccan tactician with extensive experience across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is expected to take charge ahead of the new campaign.
He arrives with a coaching résumé spanning more than a decade, including roles at clubs such as USM Alger, where he previously worked in both caretaker and full-time capacities, as well as recent spells in Saudi Arabia.
Police FC, one of Rwanda’s most established top-flight teams and the official side of the Rwanda National Police, have been searching for stability on the touchline as they look to mount a stronger challenge domestically.
The club finished fourth in the 2024–25 Rwanda Premier League season and are aiming to close the gap on the title contenders.
Benouahi’s appointment is viewed internally as part of a broader restructuring plan, with expectations that his international background and youth development experience will help reshape the squad’s competitive edge.
Although neither the club nor the coach has publicly confirmed the deal, sources indicate that the agreement is at an advanced stage, with formal announcement expected soon.
The move adds Police FC to the growing list of African clubs turning to experienced European-based coaches in a bid to raise performance standards and compete more consistently on the continental stage.
