Algeria complete final training session before travelling to Vancouver

Algeria returned to training on Monday as Vladimir Petkovic’s side intensified preparations for their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 meeting with Switzerland, with the squad completing what was their final session in Kansas before travelling to Canada.

The Greens resumed work at Rock Chalk Park at the University of Kansas in Lawrence after enjoying a rest day on Sunday, which had been granted following their qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament.

Petkovic and his coaching staff oversaw an afternoon session centred largely on technical and tactical exercises as Algeria continued fine-tuning their plans for Thursday’s crucial encounter.

The session featured almost the entire squad, with only one player absent from full group activities. Algerian forward Mohamed Amine Amoura remained on an individual training programme as he continues his recovery from the injury he sustained nearly a week ago.

Aside from Amoura, every available member of the squad took part in the team’s return to the training ground as preparations entered their final phase before departure.

The focus now shifts to Vancouver, where Algeria will continue their build-up ahead of one of their biggest matches of the tournament.

Riyad Mahrez and his teammates are scheduled to leave for the Canadian city on Tuesday afternoon before turning their attention fully to Switzerland.

The Round of 32 fixture is set to take place on Thursday, July 2, at 8:00 p.m. local time in Vancouver, which corresponds to Friday, July 3, at 4:00 a.m. Algerian time.

Monday’s training session marked the last opportunity for Petkovic and his staff to work with the squad in Kansas before the team relocates to Canada for the knockout phase.

Having secured their place in the last 32, Algeria are now focused on ensuring they arrive in Vancouver fully prepared for the challenge that awaits against Switzerland.

With tactical preparations continuing and nearly the entire squad available for selection, the Greens will look to carry their momentum into the next stage of the FIFA World Cup as they aim to extend their run in the competition.
