Barcelona smartly protect Ansu Fati future in Monaco deal
Monaco are on the verge of completing Ansu Fati’s permanent transfer from Barcelona, with the Ligue 1 side prepared to activate the €11 million buy option included in his loan agreement.
The Spanish forward, who spent last season on loan in the Principality, has reportedly resolved his pending financial issues and is now ready to commit to a new long-term contract with the club.
Barcelona, however, have moved to ensure they remain involved in his career path. According to Marca, the Catalan giants have inserted a right of first refusal into Fati’s Monaco contract. This means that if Monaco decide to sell him in the future, Barcelona will be given the chance to match any accepted bid from another club and bring him back to Camp Nou.
Fati marked his debut for Monaco on 18 September 2025 in a UEFA Champions League league phase match against Club Brugge, scoring a consolation goal in the 90+2nd minute during a 4-1 loss, demonstrating his clinical finishing despite the team’s defensive struggles.
In addition, Barcelona have also retained 30% of any future transfer fee if Fati is sold on. That clause guarantees the La Liga side a significant payday should the forward rediscover his best form in France and attract major offers later in his career.
