Coventry City agree deal to sign Sidiki Cherif after brief Fenerbahce stay

Coventry City have reached an agreement with Fenerbahce to sign Guinea striker Sidiki Cherif in a deal worth an estimated €24.5m, despite the forward having only joined the Turkish club in February.

The 19-year-old is expected to move to England after Coventry also agreed personal terms with the former SCO Angers attacker. He is due to travel to England in the coming hours for a medical before completing the final formalities of the transfer.

Cherif is expected to sign a five-year contract with Coventry City. The agreement would bring a rapid end to his time at Fenerbahce, who recruited him in February on an initial loan deal that included an obligation to buy for €21m, including bonuses.

According to Foot Mercato, Coventry’s agreement with Fenerbahce covers the permanent transfer of the young centre-forward. The reported €24.5m fee would represent a significant investment by the English club as they look to secure the striker’s services.

Cherif is currently under contract until 30 June 2030 and his market value is estimated at €18m by Transfermarkt. A move to Coventry would give him the opportunity to take another step in his career after a short spell in Turkey.

The Guinea international previously played for SCO Angers before moving to Fenerbahce. His proposed transfer to Coventry would see him continue his development in English football at the age of 19.

The deal comes shortly before Arsenal are due to face Coventry City in the opening round of the English championship. Betting company 1xBet lists Arsenal as favourites for that fixture, with the London club priced at 1.15 to win. A draw is listed at 6.70, while a Coventry City victory is priced at 14.00.

Cherif’s arrival would give Coventry another attacking option ahead of the new campaign, while the size of the reported fee underlines the club’s confidence in his potential. For Fenerbahce, however, the arrangement would mean parting company with a player they only signed a few months ago.

The transfer remains subject to Cherif passing his medical and completing the necessary paperwork. Once those steps are concluded, the Guinea striker will be set to begin a new chapter in England with Coventry City.
