World Cup 2026: Haiti coach backs Morocco to make deep run in tournament

Haiti coach Sébastien Migné believes Morocco have the quality and squad depth to remain among the strongest contenders at the 2026 World Cup after watching the Atlas Lions secure a 4-2 victory in their final Group C match.

Speaking after the match in Atlanta, the French coach praised the strength of Morocco’s squad and highlighted the range of options available to head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, suggesting that the North African side is well equipped for the challenges that lie ahead in the tournament.

The victory allowed Morocco to complete another important step in their World Cup campaign, with Migné acknowledging that the Atlas Lions possess the resources needed to maintain a high level of performance regardless of changes to the starting line-up.

“Morocco has a very deep squad. Mohamed Ouahbi has many options for rotation. I wasn’t surprised by the changes made, I expected some of them.

But with its starters as well as its substitutes, Morocco remains a very strong team,” said Migné at the post-match press conference.

The Haiti manager noted that Morocco’s strength extends beyond its first-choice players, pointing to the quality available throughout the squad. According to him, this depth allows the team to remain competitive even when adjustments are made between matches.

Morocco demonstrated that quality during the Group C encounter, overcoming Haiti 4-2 in a match that further underlined their ambitions in the competition.

Reflecting on the contest, Migné admitted that his side struggled whenever concentration levels dropped against an opponent of Morocco’s calibre. He said small mistakes were heavily punished by a team capable of capitalising on every opportunity.

“When you play against a team ranked among the top ten in the world, mistakes are punished severely. We had to stay focused throughout the match. We had moments of relaxation and the Moroccan players exploited them perfectly,” he explained.

The Haiti coach also expressed confidence that Morocco could continue progressing in the tournament. Having witnessed the team’s organisation, quality and depth first-hand, he believes the Atlas Lions have the attributes required to compete against the world’s best sides in the latter stages.

“I believe this team will go far in the competition,” he stated.

His comments add further recognition to Morocco’s growing reputation on the global stage, with the Atlas Lions continuing to impress during their World Cup campaign and strengthening hopes of another memorable run in the competition.
