AmaZulu FC seek response against Orlando Pirates after MTN8 heartbreak

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has called on his players to respond immediately when they meet Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, just days after their painful MTN8 elimination.

AmaZulu were beaten 4-3 by Sekhukhune United at Chatsworth Stadium, ending their hopes of progressing in the competition. Their disappointment has been followed by a demanding fixture against the Betway Premiership defending champions, with the match scheduled for 19:30 at Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

The short turnaround means Zwane, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach, is relying on his squad to recover quickly from the defeat and produce a committed performance against Orlando Pirates, also known as Ezimnyama Ngenkani.

The AmaZulu head coach acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge but said the match provided his team with an opportunity to make amends for the MTN8 setback.

“It’s always going to be difficult. Now we have Pirates, we’ve got to redeem ourselves,” said Zwane.

Orlando Pirates will arrive in Durban after recording a victory against Durban City, adding to the scale of the task facing AmaZulu. Zwane said his players would need to approach their recovery carefully if they were to be ready for the midweek contest.

“It’s not going to be an easy one. And we’re playing against Pirates that won [against Durban City].”

The quick return to action leaves little time for AmaZulu to dwell on the loss to Sekhukhune United. Instead, Zwane has stressed the importance of basic recovery measures, including proper nutrition and hydration, before the teams meet.

“So, we’ve got to make sure that now the players do the right things in terms of recovery. And they eat well and drink a lot of water so that we would have fully recovered when the time comes.”

The 4-3 result at Chatsworth Stadium brought an end to AmaZulu’s MTN8 campaign, while the upcoming encounter gives Zwane’s side an immediate chance to respond in the league. The match will take place at Kings Park Stadium, where AmaZulu will face an Orlando Pirates team coming off a win against Durban City.
