World Cup 2026: We’ll give our best – Morocco captain Hakimi assures ahead of Round of 32
Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi says his outfit will give their best as the team gears up for the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Atlas Lions defeated Haiti 4-2 to finish second in Group C, earning the team a place in the round 32 of the global showpiece, with the North Africans once again showing resilience, attacking quality, and the ability to respond under pressure in a dramatic encounter.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS after the match, Hakimi highlighted the importance of mentality and teamwork, particularly after Morocco had to come from behind during the game.
“We have never been in this situation before, and I am happy with the team’s spirit and its ability to come back in the game after falling behind. I am also happy with the performance and effort made by the players,” Hakimi said.
The Morocco captain emphasised that his personal focus remains entirely on supporting the team and contributing to collective success, rather than individual statistics or accolades.
“Regarding scoring and creating a goal, I am just trying to help my team and perform well in a way that benefits the group. I am here for my country and my teammates, and I always strive to do my best,” he added.
Morocco were tested by a lively Haitian side that caused problems with their energy and attacking intent, forcing the Atlas Lions to remain disciplined before eventually taking control of the match through their superior quality and experience.
Hakimi also praised the strength and depth of the squad, noting that Morocco possess a group of players capable of adapting to different situations and tactical demands.
“As for changes, every player on our roster is available to participate, and we have a distinguished group of players,” he said.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender further explained that squad rotation played a key role in the team’s approach, especially with the knockout stage ahead and the need to manage fitness levels carefully.
“We are implementing the coach’s instructions, and we made some changes because we needed to rest some players in preparation for the next stage,” Hakimi continued.
Looking ahead, Hakimi made it clear that Morocco’s ambition remains unchanged as they prepare for the Round of 32, where the competition will intensify significantly.
“We are focused on ourselves, ready for the next competition, and we will give our best. Our goal is for the Moroccan people to be proud of us,” he concluded.
Morocco’s qualification continues to strengthen their reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent performers on the world stage, with the team blending tactical discipline, technical quality, and strong mental character throughout the group stage.
As the knockout rounds approach, the Atlas Lions will now turn their attention to maintaining momentum and continuing their push for a deep run in the tournament.
